Porpita Porpita

Porpita Porpita is a marine organism also known as Blue buttons. They are a colony of hydroids which reside in tropical ocean waters. These little creatures can grow up to 30mm in diameter and look like a Jellyfish like sea creature. You will see them floating on the waters surface or washed up on the beaches.

For some unknown reason we are seeing dogs licking and ingesting them when found on the beach. They cause a strange reaction in our pets which can be quite frightening. Symptoms of Porpita porpita ingestion include; vomiting, retching, gagging, trembling and excessive salivation.
